About

okay: shalom. yes, like the hebrew word. no, i’m not jewish.

hi! i’m shalom, and i’m mostly a mess. i’m a mess who feels a lot and says a lot. half mess half feelings. in any case, i am the person on this side of the internet, and it’s really nice of you to read this. some stats:

  • vegetarian
  • in articles, i write that i’m “in my early twenties” but it freaks me out so much
  • big on crying, big on loving
  • human embodiment of “someone new”
  • so many goals, so many ideas, so much anxiety

okayshalom.com was born after i was tired of being so many things in so many places on the internet. also, near every sentence of my internal monologue begins, “okay, shalom”. so here we are. together.

what you’ve fallen into is my little corner on the internet. i’ve been here since I was 14, so i’m sorry if you read my oldest posts. i use this space to discuss and to create, and to hear what other people are thinking. i write what’s in my head, from travel and fashion to big ol’ mental ilness, music recommendations, and political ideologies. i’m anxious about time passing and try to do too much. you’ll come to know this.

i love people, thinking, musicals, crushing the patriarchy, travel, sunflowers, iced coffee, debates, double thick vanilla milkshakes, recovery, feminism, the internet, writing, lower case letters, phone calls, kisses, change, and learning.

my little sister watches a lot of national geographic, and said to me, “baby lions make so many mistakes on their first solo hunt, and the whole time before they’re grown.” in this instance, i’m a baby lion who moved back to america and is hunting the heck out of adulthood. welcome to the jungle.

Hello there, nice to meet you (although through a few words on the computer screen haha). I just stumbled upon your blog while browsing through The Commons and I notice that you mentioned about you currently struggling with depression.

I’ve written an opinion based post on my blog regarding something similar and I was wondering if you could help take a look perhaps? Only because I want an opinion from someone going through depression to tell me if the issue I raised is crucial or if it is something to dismiss as something petty. I really hope you would be able to go ahead and give it a read, if it’s not too much trouble. I also apologize in advance if there is something there that might come off as offendsive, that is not my intention at all.

    mineovermatters.wordpress.com πŸ™‚ Have a lovely week.

I read your article, and I understand where you’re coming from. It’s a difficult issue for those suffering from mental illness as well, because it seems to remove validity from our claim. However, I don’t think mental illness can ever be dismissed – even if one thinks another is faking it. We can never know, and it’s best to take action as soon as possible. Hopefully people will stop being selfish & claiming mental disorders for attention. An excellent read!

Hello again, thank you so much for your feedback! I agree with you on this issue removing the validity from those suffering from these conditions. That was exactly what I wanted to point out. Thank you for taking the time, once again πŸ™‚

Have a great week ahead and I look forward to reading more from your blog!

        Kelly
